1st International Multilateral Workshop on Sustainability and Innovation in Civil Engineering, organized by Sustainable and Innovative Bridges—Engineering Research Center, has been held in Fuzhou from 21-22 February.
 
The workshop was opened on the morning of February 21. Prof. Baochun CHEN, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Civil Engineering of Fuzhou University of China, presided over the opening ceremony. Then nine wonderful presentations followed. In the scope of this workshop, Chinese, Italian and Portugal scholars and engineers exchanged information and presented major advancements and new researches made in their respective countries. Prof. Baochun CHEN introduced SIBERC: Sustainable and Innovative Bridges—Engineering Research Center to the attendees. Bruno Briseghella, who is the first group expert named as ‘The Plan of Thousand Foreign Experts’, is director of SIBERC. The center is founded on the base of Research Institute of Bridge Engineering, Fuzhou University. Employees include the full time professors of Fuzhou University and part-time researchers from abroad and home country. A scientific committee will lead the research activities. Multiple workshops and cooperative researches are planning in 2013.
