Steel box girder of Maanshan Yangtze River Bridge began erection on the morning of December 15. “Skeleton” of the bridge deck will cross the Yangtze river soon.

It is known that left branch of Maanshan Yangtze River Bridge begins critical construction of steel box girder erection now. Steel box girders are erected through small segments, namely, the prefabricated girders shipped to the construction sites by ships are then erected by crane. Two parts of erections in the left branch are included, the part from the middle to the north tower and the one from the middle to the south tower.

Leigang Jia, Director of Construction Department, The Second Harbor Engineering Company said there are 67 steel box girders to be erected in the part from the middle to the north tower and the one from the middle to the south tower. Accurate position of the ship should be ensured before erection to the height of 50 meters. It takes 3 hours for erection of each girder from beginning to the end. This work will be finished by the end of January 2013.
