（Reported by Nessy LIU）The 9th PRC-US Bridge Engineering Workshop was held in Nanjing, China on November 14-16, 2012. It is sponsored by MOT(Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China) and FHWA (the US Federal Highway Administration), organized by Jiangsu Transportation Research Institute Co., Ltd., Southeast University and HPDI(CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd.). Theme of this workshop is “design, construction and maintenance technology for long-span highway bridges and research on standards and specifications for bridges”
About 30 attendees exchanged state-of-the-art information on highway bridge technologies and discussed plans to develop future cooperative research projects between the US and China. Haitao Zhou, Chief Engineer, MOT and Myint Lwin, Director, Office of Bridge Technologies, FHWA, served as honorary co-chairs of the event. After the workshop, the attendees visited Ma’anshan Yangtze River Bridge, which is a three-tower suspension bridge, and Sutong Yangtze River Bridge.
The next workshop is planned at Seattle, U.S. in 2013.
