Sanhao Bridge which is over the Hunhe River, Shenyang city of China, was awarded the Eugene C. Figg Jr. Medal 2009. This is an award for the unique, recent and outstanding achievement in bridge engineering in vision and innovation and providing an icon to the community for which it was designed.
It was also the winner of the International Road Federation (IRF) 2009 Global Road Achievement Award (GRAA) for Design. Designed by TYLI’s Chongqing office, this cable-stayed bridge features two unique steel arch shaped towers that resemble a butterfly.
Sanhao Bridge is 1342 meters long with a main span of 270 meters. Located in the southern part of Shenyang city, it connects the city centre area with Heping District and Changbai Industrial Park. It was opened to traffic on Oct. 10, 2008. The special design of the Sanhao Bridge fulfills Shenyang’s demand for an iconic landmark at a reasonable cost. With its construction, the IT industry was brought into Changbai region, which helped the economic development in this area. As a cross-river bridge in the east of Hunhe River, it also improves the transportation situation in this area.
